Kaleidoscope Series 05: Chanoyu - Way of Tea -

Omote_01.jpg

Join us for an evening of exploring the art of Japanese tea ceremony with a Seattle-based Omotesenke-style Tea Master, Kyoko Matsuda.

Kyoko Matsuda was born and raised in Japan. She started practicing Chanoyu when she was very young. After she moved to the United States, she met a tea master at The Morikami Museum & Japanese Garden in Palm Beach, Florida in 1998. She practiced and demonstrated at the museum for 15 years as an assistant.

In 2014, Kyoko started teaching and offering tea presentations at local schools, Cherry Blossom & Japanese Cultural Festival, Japan Fair, Seattle Art Museum and the Seattle Japanese Garden. She established a non-profit organization, Ichigo Ichie Foundation in 2019 to promote and share the beauty of Chanoyu and Japanese cultures. She is also a committee member of Omotesenke Domonkai Eastern Region, USA.

She continues to study and practice Chanoyu with the Omotesenke Tea School during her trips to Japan every year and hopes to share her passion with the public.

In this virtual event, you will learn the history, basic steps and the art of the Omotesenke style tea ceremony with the footage filmed on a beautiful autumn day in the Seattle Japanese Garden in 2020. There will be a live Q&A with Kyoko.

Registration is required for this event. Space is limited.
